In her novel Theory of Sorrow, Slavenka Drakulić draws an intimate portrait of the Serbian physicist, Mileva Marić, Albert Einstein’s first wife. She gave up a potentially promising career in science to be his wife and mother to his children. Her fate is a chilling reminder of women’s fight for emancipation and equality in a male world.
