Retelling women’s stories – novels about Milena Jesenská and Mileva Einstein

Galaxia Gutenberg, a publishing house from Barcelona, found a nice way to remind their readers of the two novels about interesting but somewhat neglected women.

The novel Soy Milena de Praga, written by Monika Zgustova, tells the story of the life of Czech writer, journalist and translator Milena Jesenská (1896-1944), who is more famous because of the fact that Franz Kafka wrote her letters than, unfortunately, for her own writing. The other one, Mileva Einstein, teoría de la tristeza written by Slavenka Drakulić and translated by Marc Casals, is about the dynamic and kind of tragic relationship of Mileva Einstein, a scientist herself, and her much more known husband Albert Einstein.

It is very important to read about women’s lives in the past, to see what has changed for female intellectuals and artists to this day.
