Drakulic reading in the European Parliament Library

Slavenka Drakulic will discuss her novel AS IF I AM NOT THERE at the next meeting of the EP Book club, on Tuesday 31st May at 19H30 in the EP Library, Brussels, Belgium. All are welcome to attend.

The book AS IF I AM NOT THERE tells a story of hope and survival amidst the Balkan tragedy. Samira, a teacher in a Bosnian village, is 29 when war breaks out. One day a young Serbian soldier walks into her kitchen and tells her to pack her bag, shattering her life forever. In this, her 4th novel, Drakulic forces her readers to look at how far a woman’s body can become enslaved, and yet live on.

An award-winning film based on Drakulic’s novel is also to be released later this year, directed by director/writer Irish Juanita Wilson.

Please inform the library if you plan to attend by replying to: bookclub@europarl.europa.eu
