On February 24 the armed forces of the Russian Federation carried out a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Today, the whole world is talking about it. In order to comprehend the events of the last days, PEN Ukraine launched a series of conversations #DialoguesOnWar, Діалоги про війну. Ukrainian and foreign intellectuals talk about the experience of the war and share their own observations.
In the March 19 conversation, Slavenka Drakulić was joined by the translator Anna Vovchenko, who is currently in Kyiv. They talked about Anna’s observations of the war, the creepy feeling citizens could all feel before this full scale invasion, she talked about her patriotic feelings, and they also compared this situation to the historically not so distant siege of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
